- You must be 21 or older to use Between the Strains.
- We store your account email, optional display name, your private notes, any Certificates of Analysis (COAs) or labels you save, and any review you post.
- Photos of COAs and labels you upload, and messages you send the assistant, are transmitted to our AI provider for processing. We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- Health-related information you save is covered by a separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice and requires separate consent.
- You can delete any saved note, COA, review, or your entire account at any time from Account settings.
- We do not provide medical advice. Talk to a licensed clinician before changing any treatment.
1. Who we are
Between the Strains is an educational tool that helps adults review published research about cannabinoids, terpenes, product labels, and reported interactions. 2. Age requirement
Between the Strains is intended for users 21 years of age or older. By creating an account you confirm you meet that age requirement. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 21.
3. Information we collect
- Account info: email address and optional display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile name from Google.
- Notes: the cannabinoid log entries you write (cannabinoid, product, dose, effect, free-text notes).
- Saved COAs and label scans: the parsed breakdown, product name, and brand for any scan you choose to save.
- Uploaded images and PDFs: transmitted to our AI provider for decoding. We do not retain the original file on our servers — only the parsed result, and only if you save it.
- Assistant messages: the questions you type are transmitted to our AI provider to generate a response. We do not store conversation history on our servers.
- Reviews: your star rating, review text, and the display name shown alongside it. Reviews are public.
- Consent records: the date you accepted the Terms and, separately, the date and version of the Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice you consented to.
- Technical data: standard server logs (IP address, browser, timestamps) kept by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.
- Local storage: your 21+ age confirmation and interface preferences are stored in your browser, not on our servers.
4. Consumer health data
Some of what you can save — notes about symptoms, conditions, or substance use — is treated as "consumer health data" under laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act, Nevada SB 370, and the Connecticut Data Privacy Act. That category is governed by our separate Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice, which explains what we collect, how consent works, and how to withdraw it. We are not a healthcare provider and we are not subject to HIPAA.
5. How we use your information
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To save and display the notes, scans, and reviews you choose to save.
- To run AI processing on the COAs, labels, and assistant questions you submit (via the Lovable AI Gateway).
- To improve reliability and prevent abuse (rate limiting, security monitoring, review moderation).
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making, and we do not use it to train our own models.
6. Sharing
We share data only with the service providers required to run the app — our hosting platform (Lovable), our database and authentication provider, and the AI gateway that processes uploaded COAs, labels, and assistant messages. Those providers process data on our instructions. We may also disclose data where legally required. We do not sell personal data, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not engage in "targeted advertising" as defined by state privacy laws.
7. Retention
We keep your account data until you delete your account. Notes, saved scans, and reviews are kept until you delete them. Server logs are retained on a short rolling window by our hosting provider. Encrypted backups may hold a copy for a limited period after deletion before they expire.
8. Your rights
- Delete: every note, saved scan, and review has a delete button.
- Account deletion: delete your account from Account settings. This removes your profile, notes, saved scans, and reviews.
- Access / export: download a copy of everything we hold for your account from Account settings.
- Correct: edit your display name and any note or review at any time.
- Withdraw health data consent: available from Account settings; see the Consumer Health Data Privacy Notice.
- Opt out of AI processing: simply don't upload COAs or labels and don't use the assistant — the rest of the app works fine without it.
- Appeal: if we decline a request, you may appeal by replying to our response at hello@betweenthestrains.com.
We respond to verifiable requests within 45 days. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
9. Security
We use industry-standard hosting and database security, including row-level security so that only you can read or write your own notes and saved scans, and encryption in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure — never store anything you wouldn't want a sophisticated attacker to potentially see.
10. Cookies and local storage
We use only the cookies and local storage needed to keep you signed in, remember your 21+ confirmation, and remember interface preferences. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
11. Children
The service is not directed to anyone under 21. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
12. Not medical or legal advice
All content on Between the Strains is educational. It is not a substitute for advice from a licensed medical professional or attorney, and nothing here has been evaluated by the FDA. Cannabis laws vary by jurisdiction — you are responsible for complying with the laws where you live.
13. Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, ask you to review it again.
